Missions

Like trading posts, missions were places where Native people and Euro-Americans interacted during the contact period.

31. Allouez Mission. About 1667, Jesuit Father Jean Claude Allouez is reported to have had a temporary mission near the mouth of Bluff Creek. (Stowe 1942:101)

32. Fond du Lac Mission (1834-c.1849). In 1834 a mission school under the oversight of the American Board of Foreign Missions was established at Fond du Lac. It continued at this location through at least 1849. (Carey 1901:247-248)
